Our Story

REV. KENNETH L. RADCLIFFE, DEACON, SERVANT

Deacon Ken Radcliffe, as he is affectionately known in the Central Harlem Community, is a Permanent Deacon serving in the Archdiocese of New York for 47 years. He is currently assigned to the parish of St. Charles Borromeo, Resurrection, All Saints in Harlem. He retired from the New York for 47 years. He retired from the New York City Department of Correction as an Administrative Chaplain after 20 years of service. His assignments included Rikers Island, detention centers in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and the Manhattan Detention Complex, MDC, also known as “The Tombs.”

Since Retiring from the New York City Department of Corrections he designed the award-winning Dream Makers program that he brings to the New York State Department of Correction and Community Supervision for the past fourteen years.

Deacon Ken Radcliffe began training as a professional Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency Counselor with the Westchester National Council On Alcoholism and other Drug Addictions Inc. in White Plains, New York in 1993 and completed the training with the Rockland Council on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependence, Inc. in South Nyack, New York in 1994. In 2018, he completed training for certified alcohol substance abuse counselor (CASAC) with Exponents Center For Personal and Professional Development in New York City. He is a trained Recovery Coach and certified to train Recovery Coaches by the New York State office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). He has worked as relapse prevention specialist, co-occurring counselor, and case manager for Volunteers of America (VOA), Homeless Shelter for men and women in White Plains, NY. Conducted relapse prevention programs for other licensed outpatient alcohol/drug treatment programs, Project Create, in Harlem, New York City, and Reality House in Queens, New York. He has been a volunteer in St. Mother Theresa’s Missionary of Charities homeless shelter, in the Bronx.

He is a writer, and author of APPLYING ALCOHOLIC ANONYMOUS PRINCIPLES TO THE DISEASE OF RACISM and two reports, The Crisis of the Poor in Black Urban America, A Challenge for The Roman Catholic Church. The other, The Crisis of the Poor in Black Urban America, The Challenge for a President, and Corporate America. He has recently created a sight and sound power point presentation, “If Your Brother Sins…” (A Catholic Visual Commentary on Race & Racism). The printed report was taken to Rome by Cardinal Dolan, who presented it to Cardinal Michael Czerny S.J., Prefect, in the Dicastery in Vatican City, Integral Human Development, Rome, who referred it to the Reginal Coordinator for North America for review and study. It can be viewed on zoom by appointment only, when 5 or more people express interest. It Is a must viewing for Catholic Church members, Parishes and other Catholic organizations advocating for Social Justice, struggling to understand the disease of racism, are most welcomed.
